Peralta District PTA offers timely support and practical assistance for both new and experienced PTA officers, either individually when we are contacted and also in the form of a year-end Officers Training and shorter training in the first few months of a new term. The format of the year end training usually consists of a morning session, a morning workshop, lunch, and an early afternoon workshop. We encourage all new officers/chairmen and those continuing as officers/chairmen to participate. These conferences are designed to enhance your skills and to energize you as a PTA leader. The fall training is also offered every year for those new officers who did not attend the end-of-year training or the State Convention, but typically attendees are limited to one workshop and the training is held on a weeknight evening.
Typically trainings include informative "how to" workshops are offered for those who are, or will be, serving as president, treasurer, financial secretary, secretary, parliamentarian, auditor and historian. Special workshops may include Membership, Legislation, Reflections, and Web site creation. A Spanish language workshop for leaders may also be included. Look for forums on Leadership and Boardsmanship, Fundraising, Wellness and Health, Conflict Resolution, Communications, and Advocacy. Not every program will be offered every year. Workshops will be advertised several months in advance and pre-registration is highly recommended.
Peralta District PTA attempts to provide these trainings for a minimal cost to cover the costs of materials and any refreshments/food that is provided.
Please check our Annual Calendar http://www.peraltadistrictpta.org/files/2015-16%20Calendar%20for%20units-councils%202-2016%20update.pdf for this year's training dates.
We also encourage you to attend the California State PTA convention, held in northern and southern California in alternate years, in the late spring. The CAPTA convention offers in-depth training in many more areas of parent involvement in the educational community as well as chances for delegates to vote on resolutions and legislative platforms and policies. Providing the financial ability for delegates to attend State PTA convention should be a priority for every unit....so please consider allocating some funds each year in your budget to send people to convention.
